Westlake Park is the central crossroads of downtown Seattle, yet years of neglect have left it underused and unwelcoming. To change this, the Seattle Parks Foundation and Seattle Parks and Recreation have united residents, businesses, property owners, agencies, and service providers to restore the park as a vibrant public commons. The park anchors a network of major destinations—from Seattle Center and the new Summit Convention Center to Pike Place Market, the waterfront, and South Lake Union—and recent Pike–Pine improvements now tie these areas together through Westlake’s transit hub. Despite this strategic position, the park lacks amenities and has struggled with problematic activity, diminishing its role as both a neighborhood asset and the city’s front door for visitors. The revitalization effort aims to transform Westlake into an open, welcoming gathering place that invites families, workers, tourists, and residents to spend time in the heart of Seattle.
