Washington State University, Global Animal Health Building, Phase II

The Progressive Design-Build Global Animal Health Phase II houses the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) and the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health disease detection and surveillance program. The new wing will house research and development labs and serve as a teaching lab for veterinary medicine students, postdocs and other health professionals, graduate and undergraduate students. It will connect to the Allen Center, which houses the school’s global animal health research programs. The most significant challenge of the project was overcoming the need for additional electrical capacity to the new building. The Valley team solved the problem of the original Phase I design by providing the electrical service from the main campus loop served by Avista in lieu of the original GAH Phase I feed. This is the third science building Valley has constructed at the WSU Pullman campus. Scope: Project focused on Target Value Design once selected to the team. Multiple option programming using our A3 tool for evaluation and decisions. Open-book and real-time budget tracking using our decision log. Real budgets aligning with facility standards, and end user requirements. The resulting efforts included a successful project for the client where we were under The GMP budget established during the preconstruction phase.
