The William H. Foege Building provides a central home for the Department of Bioengineering, the 260,000-sf, $150 million facility. The multidisciplinary building is formed by two wings, one for bioengineering and one for genome sciences. Both wings have a similar infrastructure and equipment layout. The bioengineering wing contains clustered labs dedicated for each investigator surrounded by their support spaces. The lab infrastructure will support features that include microscopy, tissue culture, lasers, cold rooms, and specialized equipment. The genome sciences wing is designed in large, open lofts with modular benches to accommodate multi-disciplinary research groups. Support labs are located on the open walkway for ease of accessibility from the labs or the main corridor, encouraging interaction and reducing mechanical redundancy. The project includes a 200-seat auditorium, a 200-seat cafe, atria, lounges, and conference rooms. Scope Performed Involved the installation of substation, MCC’s, 480v and 120v distribution systems, receptacles, lighting, fire alarm, and security systems. Valley tapped into the existing 13.8 kv University HV loop and installed three 13.8/480v substations. We installed 220 distribution panels, conduit and wire for Mechanical power, lighting, and receptacle power. We provided complete Fire Alarm and 1500 Data stations, installed 1200 fixtures, low voltage lighting controls and emergency lighting. We also Installed a 1500 Kw Diesel Engine Generator set, three Automatic Transfer Switches for Emergency and standby power. Provided and installed 2000 feet of pre-wired surface metal Raceway for both receptacle power and date outlets. Total Project Area 260,000-sf
