Located on a 7.8‑acre site, the 80,000-sf Factoria Recycling and Transfer Station was delivered through four construction phases. The project included demolition of three existing on‑site structures, installation of fourteen deep dewatering wells, construction of a 1.5‑million‑gallon detention vault, a new household hazardous‑waste facility, retrofit work to the existing scales house, and extensive underground utility upgrades. Sustainable Design Features were incorporated throughout the project to improve energy performance and reduce long‑term operating costs. Rainwater is captured from roof surfaces and reused for restroom fixtures and wash‑down hoses, a system projected to save more than one million gallons of domestic water annually. The project achieved LEED Gold certification. Enhanced Station Features a significantly expanded recycling collection area for materials such as yard waste, clean wood, appliances, and scrap metal. It also includes a more efficient household hazardous‑waste collection system and a fully enclosed solid‑waste transfer building with increased roof clearance and a misting system to minimize noise, dust, and odors. A new garbage compactor increases payload efficiency and reduces the number of transfer‑trailer truck trips required to and from the facility.
